Shore Medical Leg Club opened in January 2024 with our experienced nurses and healthcare assistants on site to help to treat and heal your leg ulcer.
We are based at Rossmore Leisure Centre every Wednesday morning between 9-11am. We run as a walk-in service so please sign in, take a seat and relax.
What is a leg ulcer?
A leg ulcer is a long-lasting (chronic) sore that takes more than 2 weeks to heal. It usually develops on the inside of the leg, between the knee and the ankle. The symptoms of a venous leg ulcer include pain, itching and swelling in the affected leg. There may also be discoloured or hardened skin around the ulcer, and the sore may produce a foul-smelling discharge.
What are the benefits of Leg Club?
Increased healing rates
Improved management of leg ulcers through patient education
The social aspect of Leg Club reduces isolation and loneliness for patients and encourages them to take control of their own care
More efficient treatment of leg ulcers by having a dedicated clinic and a specialised team all working to the same standards
Activities such as puzzles, raffles, puzzle books and themed sessions contribute to the positive atmosphere that is Shore Leg Club
Free drinks and biscuits provided for patients and companions
Do you have a couple of Wednesday mornings a month free to help at Leg Club?
We are looking for volunteers to assist with refreshments and spending time talking to our patients. If you’d like to find out more, please email georgina.carpenter@dorsetgp.nhs.uk
