Dear Patient,
Currently as a Shore Patient you have your leg ulcer the treatment either at the Fernside Surgery or at your usual practice.
From January 3rd, 2024, Shore will be moving this service to a dedicated location. The service will now be run at ‘the leg club’ at The Rossmore Leisure Centre on Wednesday mornings each week.
The new service will allow the nursing team to offer an improved care to patients and improved outcomes. The new community-based leg club for patients will allow for clinical care to be provided in an open and social environment. The leg clubs are built around the concept of promoting independence and well-being. This social model of care gives patients not only excellent care in the treatment of the physical wound but in promoting people’s independence and mental wellbeing by reducing loneliness and isolation.
Ulcers and other wounds can have significant impact of patient’s mobility and general quality of life. By implementing a specialist team to provide the new service means that patients speed of recovery and improvement in wellbeing are significantly improved.
The leg club will run every Wednesday between 9am -11am from the 3rd of January 2024 and there is no need to make an appointment just turn up to the Rossmore Leisure centre. While you there you will be offered free, teas and coffee also the chance to chat with other patients undergoing the same treatment.
Over the Christmas period (11th -29th Dec) all your appointments will be at your practice and then from the 3rd of January 2024 you will no longer be able to book into your surgery. You will then need to attend the leg club at Rossmore Leisure Centre.
Please speak to your nurse if you have any other questions at your appointment.
Regards
Shore Medical
